Start small and lightweight with a single-axle model like the SSR open utility trailer; the FA 2.0, RA 2.0, and RW 2.0 Series open utility models. These trailers can hitch safely onto smaller tow vehicles like some crossover utility wagons, compact SUVs and up. For larger cargo loads, check out tandem-axle open utility models like the FA 2.0, Wood Deck 2.0, open deckover models including low-pro and heavy-duty versions, and our HD open aluminum utility haulers. 

No matter how simple your utility trailer's build type, there are two components you may want to customize for the ultimate ideal open aluminum utility trailer: ramps and tie-downs. 

Ramps for Open Aluminum Utility Trailers

Ramps get you and your cargo onto, and safely off, the trailer deck -- unless you choose a tilting model, of course, in which case, you can skip the ramps and get right into the tie-downs. 

Not every ramp is suitable for every trailer, and therefore, not every ramp is available for every trailer. ALCOM has already matched a purpose-built ramp to every open aluminum utility or landscape trailer. Depending on which model you choose, you may have the perfect ramps already built in as a standard option, but you can almost always upgrade your trailer's ramps to a heavier-duty option. 

For example, the FA 2.0 TA model, a dependable tandem axle open aluminum utility trailer, has a standard integrated rear ramp with a beveled edge. This aluminum ramp will get the job done, but if you prefer a different look or need a heavier-duty option, switch things up. Go with a bi-fold rear Ramp upgrade or opt for the slide-out 4K ramp kit, which includes a U-channel and replaces the fold-down style ramp.  

On some trailers, like the Wood Deck 2.0 model, you can get a rear bi-fold ramp upgrade and add a side-loading ramp kit for landscape equipment, ATVs, and more. Having a side and rear ramp gives you more loading and unloading options than ever.  

Even on a 14K Multi-Purpose HD utility trailer, you can upgrade from the standard adjustable HD flip-up ramps to 6' car hauler grade stowaway ramps. This turns your 14K Multi-Purpose HD trailer into a car hauler before it even leaves our factory.

Tie-Downs for Open Aluminum Utility Trailers 

Every ALCOM open aluminum utility and landscape trailer comes with a standard set of tie-downs based on the trailer type, size, and payload -- but you can (almost) always add more tie-downs and customize the trailer deck anchor points to suit your planned cargo.

Many of our larger open aluminum utility trailer models, like the Open Deckover Utility Trailer and LowPro Beavertail Wood Deckover Trailer, come with stake pockets around the trailer's perimeter, and you can use stake pockets to configure custom tie-down points around the entire trailer. Other models have an optional stake pocket kit, like the FA 2.0 TA model. Some models, like the FA 2.0 tandem and FA 2.0 single axle models, include standard adjustable perimeter track around the trailer deck for easy installation and adjustment of tie-downs and cargo anchors. 

One of the most common anchor points you'll find on our all-aluminum utility trailers is the D-ring. These handy hookups come in a variety of sizes, all shaped like a capital letter D so one side of the ring can mount flush against its backing plate or sit neatly in the groove of a recessed backing plate. D-rings are easy to use: hook a carabiner, ratchet strap or bungee cord to them, or loop a rope through them as part of a tie-down configuration. • 5K and 6K recessed heavy-duty D-rings with a swivel option and backing plate
