Hog the Spotlight: Aluminum Show Pig Trailers Built to Last

Agricultural fair season starts soon in New England; for farmers and exhibitors, it's time to get your animals ready for the big show! Anyone who's transported livestock in a trailer knows the safety and comfort of the animals is crucial to a successful trip. Without a safe, secure, and comfortable ride, animals can become stressed or, worse, injured. Knowing how much our customers care about their animals' comfort and safety drives Frontier Trailers to build lightweight, durable, thoughtfully designed livestock trailers to make sure everyone gets to the fair feeling good. We've talked before about using Frontier Trailers to transport horses for rodeo events, show jumping, skijor and more. Today, we're looking at the best aluminum trailers for moving show pigs.

Frontier's Aluminum Advantage

Why opt for an aluminum trailer to haul your hogs? If you hate rust, you'll love aluminum: thanks to its natural properties, aluminum resists rust. It's built to last. It's also lighter than steel, allowing more tow vehicles to pull aluminum trailers. The heavier the trailer, the harder your vehicle works to haul it, so a lighter trailer means less wear and tear on your tow vehicle and can even save you some fuel.

Once you've decided to go with aluminum, it's time to explore the options! Frontier Trailers builds horse and livestock trailers for farm friends of all sizes. Let's dig into the lineup.

Stock LowPro Aluminum Trailers

First up, let's look at the Stock LowPro Series. This line of all-aluminum livestock trailers is a perfect solution for transporting animals who don't need the same kind of headroom as horses do. While many of our trailers are built with high ceilings, the Stock LowPro Series caps out at 6' tall without sacrificing performance or features.

The Stock LowPro Bumper Pull is available in a standard or drop-down feed window (DDFW) configuration. They're two different models, but let's look at what they have in common: a V-nose bumper pull livestock trailer that's 7' wide, 6' high, and available in 12' to 20' long, with standard extruded aluminum decking. Need a wider trailer body? Upgrade to 8' width and you're all set! It's built for endurance, with a 24" front stone guard, box tube chassis, and 12" O/C crossmembers. Standard features include four-wheel electric brakes with safety breakaway kit; all LED exterior lighting; a tack room with an interior light; a heavy-duty rear step-up rubber bumper, full-length running boards, and air gaps for ventilation.

Here's where the models vary: a Stock LowPro Bumper Pull has three air gaps with Plexitrac, but a Stock LowPro DDFW BP includes just one air gap. Instead of the extra air gap rows, you get a built-in drop-down feed window in every stall for easy ventilation and access to check on animals or refresh their food and water. With our recently designed 4' adjustable stalls with a spring latch system, every porcine passenger has their own space inside the trailer and you can ensure your pigs are safe and comfortable on the road.

If a gooseneck attic sounds like it's more up your alley, Stock LowPro Gooseneck and Gooseneck DDFW trailers are ready to hitch on, with a standard 7' wide body and available 8' width upgrade, lengths of 16' to 26', and a LowPro 6' height. The primary difference here is the gooseneck body, because the construction and options are consistent with the other Stock LowPro aluminum trailers, letting you configure the exact trailer body, hitch style, size, and interior upgrades you need for your herd of hogs.

The Livestock Series

The Livestock Series of Frontier all-aluminum livestock and hog trailers is a lot like the Stock LowPro Series -- they're just taller. If you need extra headroom for your own comfort or other animals who need a ride to or from your place, we'd recommend looking into the Livestock Series for up to 7' standard trailer height.

Livestock Series trailers are available in bumper pull or gooseneck styles, with standard 7' width and 6'6" (bumper pull) or 7' (gooseneck) height. The Livestock Series Bumper Pull & Gooseneck trailers come standard with extruded aluminum decking, while the Lite Series Bumper Pull model has standard heat treated plank decking. For the ultimate ride, check out the Livestock Combo DDFW gooseneck trailer. Each Livestock Series model has an extensive optional upgrade menu -- make your trailer wider, taller, or upgrade the axles for a heavier load!

Optional Upgrades

Pig out on trailer upgrades to make your trailer better than ever. Your exact available options will depend on which exact trailer you choose, but some of our popular upgrades include:

  • Insulated wall and ceiling liners for multi-season moving;
  • Extra interior lighting packages;
  • A hat shelf, clothing rod; and bucket hangers;
  • Extra vents and windows for optimal creature comfort;
  • A 36" side trailer ramp for easy access from all sides;
  • A rear ramp over the swinging double doors for extra-easy loading of shorter animals;
  • Rubber flooring in the livestock area of the trailer.
